THE EVIL DEAD - 2 Slimes
Rated R

The Characters:

  • Ash - Our hero, a little more on the chubby and pansy side than I'd like.
  • Linda - Ash's girlfriend, possessed by the evil spirits and damn annoying with that laugh.
  • Scott - Your standard blonde leader guy, he gets shrubbed to death trying to escape.
  • Shelly - Scott's woman who gets possessed of course. He chops her up with an ax.
  • Cheryl - Artsy-fartsy girl, she gets raped by a tree. I did not think it up, do not yell at me...
  • The Evil Dead - Demons summoned using the Book of the Dead.

The Plot:

Overall okay. That's my assessment. Overall okay. Well, you're going to find it a little slow at times but there are a couple of really amusing parts. Especially Scott chopping up his possessed girlfriend as she screams, "No! No! You love her!" How do we arrive at such debauchery you may ask? Heart of the matter is that these kids rent a cabin where some professor had been translating the Book of the Dead. When they play the tape recording of his work it summons the evil spirits, who immediately begin causing havoc. Not only do trees (yes, trees) rape Cheryl, but Linda turns into this giggling pasty face thing. Ash burns the book to dispel the demons, and everything seems fine, we last see him screaming as something rushes out of the forest. Personally I think he was royally screwed. Though you might find this film tepid at best there is solace in the two sequals: Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness.

Things I Learned From This Movie:

  • Before renting a cabin in the middle of nowhere you should look it over.
  • If cellar doors just pop open one should lock them and forget anything happened.
  • Ancient demonic texts written in human blood look alot like ballpoint.
  • Trees can rape women.
  • Evil spirit movies always have some strange dagger hanging around.
  • It's not difficult to chop up the woman you love.
  • Don't smack the dying guy.
  • Possessed people are just full of body fluids - blood, vomit, etc...

Stuff To Watch For:

  • 6 mins - None of you idiots are worried that porch swing is banging against the house when there is no wind?
  • 15 mins - Shit! Scotty, I am going to kick your ass!
  • 24 mins - Man, that moon is huge! It's going to crash into the Earth! Run! Run!
  • 27 mins - Cheryl getting violated by a tree?
  • 38 mins - Pencil through the ankle, ouch!
  • 55 mins - Just shoot the possessed thing.
  • 62 mins - Yes! Chop her up! No, don't get all mushy about it...
  • 76 mins - This scene has gone on long enough, something grab him through the door. We know it's coming.

Scott chops up Shelly, at least the body her soul used to inhabit before things got out of hand. Just oogle as he dismembers his girlfriend with a very dull axe, it is amazing what you can make up for in sharpness with weight. I wonder if Raimi had some issues with an old girlfriend by this name?

Eurm, the plot revolves round a Sumerian manuscript, NOT an Tibetan one... This Necronomicon idea was invented by HP Lovecraft (even though this version differs significantly from that one) and has been a main stay of the genre ever since, nothing to do with real life books you know.

This movies rocks hard!!!! For a low-budget horror flick that could have been easily overlooked among crappy splatter flicks like "House On Sorority Row", "Evil Dead" returns some dignity to the horror genre. Bruce Campbell may have been a wuss in the 1st movie, but the Ash character is one of the baddest action heroes of the latter 20th century. "ED2" is even better than the 1st! "ED3" (aka "Army Of Darkness") is good, but after two great, unrated, wild-ass gorefests, an R-rated movie is kind of a letdown. BTW, did anyone hear that a remake of "ED" is in the works? I think I read about this in Entertainment Weekly. Also, there was some talk about putting Ash in the next "Freddy vs Jason" movie. Can you imagine him up against those two? That would be a really kick-ass fight!

"Sam Raimi or whoever wrote the script has NO IDEA what the Tibetan Book of the Dead is about. I read it myself, anyone can find it in a good library and it is the most wonderful piece of work I have ever read. Not designed to wake up the dead or to create zombies."

Evil Dead is now my favorite horror movie. I saw it for the first time today. I cannot wait to see Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. I am now an Evil Dead fan! Go Ash!

Evil Dead wasn't the greatest low budget film ever but it WAS influential.

Yes, it is slow at times but it does make up for it all simply with the tree rape scene and the pencil to the ankle scene.

The other 2 movies are superior, and I like how the Ash character progresses through the films!

I can't believe some people didn't like this film, this movie scared the crap out of Stephen King. I found the stabbing the pencil through the girls ankle scene very disturbing but this movie was great. Hey George, you mentioned about Ash in the next "Freddy vs Jason" movie, cause that intrigues me, I would love to see that. Ash going up against two legends, that would kick ass!

Rephrasing myself "I found one scene disturbing when possessed Cheryl stabbed Linda's ankle with a pencil, god that must've hurt like hell!"
