1980s alien movie

I cant remember the name to this movie. Im pretty sure it was in the 80s or very early 90s. A boy escapes from somewhere (hospital or government building?? something like that) and gets in a space ship. On the spaceship are all kinds of different nice alien creatures. I think one is cute and furry, kind of looks like a furby or something and talks to him. Eventually I know he gets off the spaceship and returns to his parents and imn pretty sure the aliens return to space.
