One of the interesting facts I learned about the original Star Wars movies is just how much like celebrities all of the characters in them were. Consider these two PSAs from the late 1970s, for example, which made full use of this fact:


Nowadays, of course, Star Wars doesn't have quite the same level of influence on the kids as it would have back then. Still, there's at least one scene in the new trilogy that's almost a PSA itself:


All you'd have to do to make this a PSA would be to have the actor playing the drug dealer there holding up a pack of smokes, looking out at the viewers, and saying: "I went home and rethought my life. And I don't wanna sell you any coffin nails, either."

I wonder what kind of movie characters we could put to use this way these days.
