A film I have never seen, but someone just mentioned to me via email and it could be a good candidate, is "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf."  I wrote the gent back about it and asked if he remembered that scene.

 I thought it might have been the ending scene in Deadtime Stories, but the boy didnt have a ball.  He was in bed and on the ceiling was a creature and the boy is screaming.  Not sure.
