Quote from: Archivist on October 10, 2024, 04:54:36 AMAs someone who loved Stephen King novels, I have yet to see a Stephen King movie adaptation that I've truly enjoyed, apart from the anthology movies like Cat's Eye and a couple of stories of Creepshow. The Dark Tower was pretty good, but I haven't read the books, so I can't make that comparison.

I never got into old classics like Metropolis or Nosferatu.

I can't stand any of the Mafia movies like Goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather trilogy, or anything like that. Just no. Probably because I watch movies for entertainment and escape, and movies like that are anything but.

Similarly, prison movies do nothing for me, except maybe Shot Caller, but that's because it's an extremely well made movies.

I LOVE Michael Bay movies. Okay, yeah, I said it.

out of curiosity, have you seen the movie of The Mist?

No, I haven't. Is this something I should look into?

Now that I think of it, I enjoyed the heck out of Doctor Sleep, although I haven't read the novel. King's work took a more brutal turn in the early 90s, seeming to aim more for shock value than story, and I don't think I've read anything past The Dark Half.

I would recommend it, especially if you've read the short story.Just try to avoid any spoilers about how it ends.

Snap.

I don't like Star Wars or any of the sequels/prequels (Empire has good bits though)  But I loved the cash-ins that came after the original in '77.  Battlestar, Battle Beyond the Stars, Starcrash, The Humanoid etc.

me neither... although it's one of those films that's so ubiquitous and culturally ingrained I feel like I've 'absorbed' it by osmosis, to the point where I don't need to see it anyway. plus I've never really liked Tom Hanks (I do like him in BIG though)

I understand exactly what you just said. That's exactly how I feel about this movie there's so many Clips so many references comedies so many quotes too many gifs... said or showed, it overwhelmed my passion to see the movie

I even had my mum playing the FOREST GUMP soundtrack cassette non stop for months when it came out (my fault as I bought it for her)... I almost feel like I've seen that film way too many times, despite never seeing it  :teddyr:

That happened to me with 2001: SPACE ODISSEY. I tried to watch it once but got bored out of my skull, yet I understand most references.
