I saw a movie once as a kid.  I don't remember much about it, except it was a Japanese movie (l think, because it was dubbed) with a "monster movie" feel.  In it these was a submarine which had a huge screw at one end that allowed it to bore through things.   I don't actually remember if there was a "monster" in the movie or not, it just had, as I dimly recall, those sort of production values.

Anyone have any idea what it was?

Yes!     That is it.  I read the IMDB description and it mentioned Mu, which is a lost civilization in the movie, which I had entirely forgotten about.  Thanks for the quock reply.

What's weird is that the snake monster from that movie showed up as 'Atragon' in DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968)!
