I watched this in preparation for the Oscars since it's nominated for Best Animated Picture. I strongly doubt it'll win though. The award is going to go to whatever uninspired drivel Disney vomited out this year. This by far deserves it much more. It might be one of my favorite animated movies ever if I'm being honest.

Wolfwakers is the story of a girl named Robyn Goodfellow who lives in a walled-off village in Ireland. The people of the village hate and fear wolves. And there are myths of people known as "Wolfwalkers". When a Wolfwalker is asleep their soul leaves their body and transforms into a wolf. When it's time to wake up they must return to their bodies.

Despite her father's instructions show goes into the forest where she befriends a Wolfwalker named Mebh. From there the story revolves around Robyn trying to protect the wolves from a man named "The Lord Protector", who exterminate them. It's a beautiful film animated in an art style that makes every frame look like something from a storybook. And it's an incredibly emotional story about fighting against hatred and to keep your family together. I can't recommend it more. Sadly, it's an Apple+ exclusive though. So I guess if you have that service you should watch it.

Alas, I have no AppleTV so I'm unable to watch what looks like a fantastic movie. Thank you for bringing this up, things like this deserve a lot more attention to whatever stuff that Disney is peddling these days.

This is the only film associated with the Oscars that interests me.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

I forgot this came out, thanks for the reminder.  Going to check it out soon.  I did also like Secret of the Kells from the same people.

Oh, I think Disney will probably take it (likely for Soul)..  But the other contenders actually have a shot, as Onward and Soul will split the vote somewhat amongst the more mainstream voters at the Academy, who probably saw only those two of the five nominees.  Only problem is Shaun the Sheep and Wolfwalkers themselves are both quite good, and will probably divide the remaining voters.  If there was a clear favorite of the non-Disney animated films this year though, it'd have a chance.  That's likely how Spirited Away managed a win, as Disney had THREE nominees that year.

There's going to be a Blu-ray box set with WolfWalkers and other movies by the same studio.

Finally got around to watching this (had to wait for the Blu-ray release). It is such a shame this animated film with so much heart behind it will not reach the audience it deserves being behind a paywall and a box set.

Now that its out, I'll have to pick it up myself.  I don't mind the box set because it comes with The Secret of Kells which is also on my to-watch list.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...
