Is it on a religious topic? Is the director seriously talking about God, or does it have nothing to do with religion?

Not really religious, though there's some religion in it. Adapted from a novel that was very popular with girls in the 1970s, it's about a young woman going through puberty. I didn't think the movie had great appeal beyond its target audience of teen and tween girls, and women who read it when they were kids; maybe if you have a daughter around that age it might be of interest.
