Based off what I've read from certain people here, there seems to be plenty of appreciation for novelty music and comedy based music. Seems to not be a hugely viable, money making branch of the music industry, and most make a quick buck and quickly disappear. Some make a career out of it. Some examples of some favorites of mine:
"I Just Had Sex" by The Lonely Island featuring rapper Akon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQlIhraqL7o
"Fish Heads" by Barnes and Barnes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTpUVAcvWfU
"CNR" by "Weird Al" Yankovic, a style parody of The White Stripes, about Charles Nelson Reilly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLnapb-30hA
Weird Al's probably the biggest known comic musician to make it 'big', at least in the last 25 years or so. There've been others, Frank Zappa and Spike Jones, notably. Anyone else have any?
Probably the grand-daddy of them all is Alan Sherman.
Alan Sherman is funny too. Still listen to him.
The NYC area hardcore band Mucky Pup did their part to bring new life to an old fairy tale:

It's not really novelty, but it's still a funny song! It's from the album A Boy In A Man's World.
Ray Stevens.
Some like The Streak best, but my favorites of his are "It's Me Again Margaret", "I Need Your Help, Barry Manilow", and "The Ballad Of The Blue Cyclone".
"Where's Your Mommy?" by Cledus T. Judd---basically the country version of weird al. Does Parodies, and such.

Also, The Dead Milkmen are pretty funny, a punk group from Philly.
Tom Lehrer is my hero.

John Valby---NSFW

"Star Trekkin" by The Firm...I heard this on Dr. Demento

"The Saga Begins" by "Weird Al" Yankovic...if you've ever wondered what happens in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace but don't feel like watching...set to "American Pie" by Don McClean

Tom Lehrer is wonderful too.

I had their album
Voobaha sorry I sold it with most of my records...
BILLY MUMY from the old 1960s TV show "
Lost In Space" was half of the musical group
BARNES AND BARNES. This was my favorite off their first album:

And the originator of absurd recording

Abso-freaking-lutely, and a good call.
How about Harry Nilsson of "Lime in the Coconut" fame? What a bizarre and whimsical artist.

and Joe Dolce

And a song that appeared on a MacLean and MacLean album, sung by a successful mainstream recording artist who was a good friend of theirs. His record label tried unsuccessfully to stop its release. He did use a pseudonym, but it wasn't likely to fool anybody. NSFW

Another one from MacLean and MacLean, live at the El Mocambo. Blair MacLean tells the entire plot of Star Wars in something like two minutes. Not one of their song parodies, but still funny as hell. NSFW

The Wonderful Grand Band (featuring Tommy Sexton and Greg Malone of Codco fame) from back in the day (70s/80s)

And more recently there's Snook

and Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers.
Honestly these bands/performers play up all the stereotypes surrounding Newfies, most of which likely do no apply to me personally although honestly I can't say they don't apply for some (just not at all for me). Still you got to admit these are funny and very talented folks. The late Tommy Sexton and "Babylon Mall" really stands out IMO.
Spike Jones was great...Dunno if there's a lot of videos for him though.
A few I thought I'd share...
